The Reluctant Monster (eBook)

Valerius Roux is a repo man who tows cursed cars for a living and sells his blood suppression by day. When a supposedly routine pickup in the flooded Ninth Ward yields a ten-year-old clutching the silver badge of Roux’s dead wife, Val finds himself holding the key to a conspiracy that buys children and refines their blood into power. A Commander in the Order and a Pale Lady warlord both want the boy; one promises sanctuary, the other an auction. Val’s only allies are a caffeine-crazed ghoul, a burnt-out detective, and a hybrid who’s as lethal as she is dying. With the Spire aflame, the city collapsing into lawless raids, and a ledger that names the missing, Val must run, fight, and finally choose whether to be monster or savior. The question: how much of a man are you willing to forfeit to save a child?
